In June of 2009, First Baptist Church formed a Vision Team (strategic planning team) to seek God's will for the future. We conducted a church health survey, studied demographics of our area, and engaged the church in prayer for our future.
The Vision Team developed a biblically-founded purpose statement: "We are a compassionate people of faith, committed to following Jesus Christ by loving God, sharing hope, and serving others." The team developed six pillars (areas of concentration) to focus the purpose statement: evangelism, worship, discipleship, prayer, fellowship, and ministry. The team then supported the decision to have our church engage in "40 Days of Purpose" to nurture small groups and help our members identify their spiritual gifts.
The Vision Team reports monthly to our church and involves membership and church committees in our vision for the future. The Vision Team prayerfully seeks a depth of understanding what we believe and value at First Baptist Church.
"Where there is no vision, the people will perish." -- Proverbs 29:18
